Hand-decorated, custom headwear.

To pronounce “ženska Glava” (which is Serbian for "woman's head"), you can break it down phonetically:

Ženska: "Zhen-ska." (woman)

.The "ž" sound is like the "s" in "measure" or the "g" in "mirage." The "e" is like the "e" in "get."

. Glava: "Gla-va." (head)

.The "a" is pronounced like the "a" in "father."

When you put it together, it sounds like:

"ZHEN-ska GLAH-vah."

A collage of two women, one younger with short dark hair and a pink sweater, and one older with longer blonde hair and a patterned blouse, sitting at a dining table.

Anyone who is from the Balkans, has heard men in their family use this term.

But don’t be fooled.. this is not some anatomy lesson, oh no, no. This is deep Slavic philosophy. The central nervous system of the Slavic universe.

In many Slavic households, there is always one true ruler. The ‘ženska glava’.

She knows everything:

  • where you left your socks

  • why you are wrong

  • where the ‘promaja’ (draft) is coming from

  • and exactly how much you’ve weighed since 1993

She controls the food, the mood, and the blood pressure of every man, within a 5 km radius. The woman, the wife, the mother, the commander of domestic operations. A true force to be reckoned with.

You, Queen.

Remember this sacred Slavic wisdom:

“In every home the man may be the head but the woman is the neck

and the neck can turn the head wherever it wants”.
